Musiktheater Linz

In 2013, the Landestheater Linz received its new, long-awaited venue: the Musiktheater am Volksgarten.

  • Location: Linz
  • Architect: Terry Pawson Architects
  • Photographer: Walter Oberbramberger
  • Country: Austria
  • Region: Europe

The most modern opera house in Europe, designed by the London architect Terry Pawson, ArchitekturConsult ZT GmbH and “die Archinauten”, will start a new cultural era due to the technical, architectural and ecological qualities of the new building.
The Music Theater Linz has a main hall that seats more than a thousand people. In addition, there are 3 other smaller rooms, which are absolutely equal to the large hall in technology and technical support facilities.
Together with the park, the new building provides a cultural focus at the end of the primary pedestrian route through the City, connecting it to the main square and the River Danube.
Its impressive facade gives the impression of a curtain and was made of light concrete and natural stone. It covers the building on three sides and forms a large gate towards Volksgarten.
The two Austrian offices ArchitekturConsult and "die Archinauten" were responsible for the interior design.
