The Ark, a new hotel at Eriksberg Hotel & Nature Reserve in southeast Sweden, offers guests an unparalleled experience of being immersed in nature—even while indoors. The hotel, designed by the renowned duo Bernadotte & Kylberg, features 23 rooms, including three themed suites: Urberg (Primeval Mountain), Skog (Forest), and Himmel (Sky). Each suite is a carefully crafted extension of the surrounding landscape, with custom furniture, lighting, art, and flooring that reflect Eriksberg’s rich flora and fauna.
The design team made numerous visits to Eriksberg, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the reserve to blur the lines between the interior spaces and the outdoors. One standout feature is a two-meter-wide tree root, repurposed as a ceiling light in one of the suites, emphasizing the hotel’s deep connection to its environment. The wallpaper in the suites, created by pattern designer Martin Bergström, incorporates motifs collected directly from the reserve, further enhancing the natural ambiance.
Environmental responsibility is a core focus of The Ark, with the hotel designed to evoke the feeling of a boat anchored in the landscape, seamlessly blending into its surroundings. Guests can enjoy views of Eriksberg’s savanna from every room, and some even feature glass floors, offering a unique perspective of the wildlife below.
