Aldar Central Market, Abu Dhabi (2006-2011)
Significant historical presence
- Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
- Architect: Foster & Partners
- Country: United Arab Emirates
- Region: Middle East
Abu Dhabi's Central Market holds a significant historical presence as one of the city's oldest sites. Inspired by the Gulf's traditional architecture, this project seeks to reimagine the market space, infusing the city with a fresh civic core. Stepping away from the uniformity of modern malls, it offers a contemporary interpretation of regional aesthetics, aligning with a distinct identity.
This market experience merges luxury boutiques, food markets, and crafts-based trades, akin to the essence of traditional souks. These diverse elements come together within an interior of filtered sunlight, vibrant hues, and bubbling fountains, crafted with interconnecting squares, courtyards, and lanes.
